The Rhodes Scholarship for Hong Kong SAR 2023
The Rhodes Scholarships are the oldest international scholarship programme in the world, and one of the most prestigious. The programme offers fully-funded Scholarships each year for full-time postgraduate study at the University of Oxford. Rhodes Scholarships are for young leaders of outstanding intellect and character who are motivated to engage with global challenges, committed to the service of others and show promise of becoming value-driven, principled leaders for the world’s future.
Number of Awards
There are up to two Rhodes Scholars selected from Hong Kong.
Coverage of the Scholarship
The basic tenure of the Scholarship is two years, subject to satisfactory academic performance and personal conduct. A Rhodes Scholarship covers the University course fees, University application fee, an annual stipend, one economy class airfare to and from Oxford at the beginning and end of studies in Oxford, etc.
a) Nationality/Citizenship: Candidates must
i. be permanent residents of Hong Kong, OR
ii. be citizens of China who are studying at (or have obtained Honours degree from) a university in Hong Kong, OR
iii. have lived in Hong Kong for no less than 7 years and can demonstrate a strong personal connection with Hong Kong.
b) Age: Candidates must meet either of the below criteria:
i. On 1 October 2022, candidates must be at least 18 and have not reached the 24th birthday (i.e. born after 1 October 1998 and on or before 1 October 2004), OR
ii. On 1 October 2022, candidates must have not reached the 27th birthday (i.e. born after 1 October 1995) AND have met or will meet the academic requirements for completion of their first undergraduate degree on or after 1 October 2021.
c) Academic Achievement: Candidates must have completed (or will have completed by July 2023) an undergraduate degree with an academic background and grade that, at a minimum, meets or exceeds the specific entry requirements of the chosen full-time course at the University of Oxford.

Candidates can apply online from 1 June 2022. Applications must be submitted online together with all supporting documents by 23:59, 30 September 2022 (Hong Kong time).
